Art is an equaliser. It’s democratic. It should create bridges, connect languages, connect ideas, create and build instead of alienating and dividing. I have never met a person who couldn't create.
I am an artist and maker based in East Dulwich, South East London. I split my time between the studio, where I create mixed media work, and the classroom, where I teach children and adults the joy of making.
My practice is rooted in the handmade, using simple and direct methods in drawing, painting, print and assemblage. I often work quickly and in series. I am drawn to the vernacular, everyday objects, loved ones and the streets around me. During lockdown I turned to humble things close at hand, charity shop finds, market fragments and pieces gathered on seaside walks.
I have been a maker all my life and an art teacher for more than 30 years. I have taught toddlers, teenagers and adults. I believe everyone can create, we just need time, space and encouragement.
